Two-Stroke Lubrication

Two-stroke engines collect some oil beneath the crankshaft; however, two-stroke engines employ a total-loss lubrication system that combines oil and fuel to provide both energy and engine lubrication. The oil and fuel are combined in the cylinder’s intake tract and lubricate critical components such as the crankshaft, connecting rods and cylinder walls.

Oil-injected two-stroke engines inject the oil directly into the engine, where it mixes with the fuel, while pre-mix two-stroke engines require a fuel-oil mixture that is combined before being installed in the fuel tank. In general, two-stroke engines are known to wear more quickly than four-stroke engines because they don’t have a dedicated lubricant source; however, high-quality two-stroke oil significantly reduces engine wear.

I run this oil all summer long, in a Stihl weed eater that is supposed to be mixed 50/1, and I mix it 100/1 and it runs like a champ. THIS STUFF WORKS.

I mix this slightly leaner than the manufacturer’s recommended 50-1. Amsoil says you can go as lean as 100-1, I don’t do that but maybe halfway between. Less oil used, less smoke, cleaner burn. Very happy with this product and great life from my commercially used handheld two-strokes

Great 2-stroke oil

I have been using this oil for over 40 years on several engines. Everything from a dirt bike to chainsaws, leaf blowers and string trimmers. I mixed this oil 100:1 over 30 years for a McCulloch chainsaw that required 40:1 mix. The only reason I don’t have that saw anymore is because the starter housing broke and parts are no longer available. The engine still started and ran perfectly, with no visible smoke.

I use Saber in my pre-mix Rotax 670 aircraft engine and it’s been amazing. I first started mixing at 50:1 but have steadily reduced the mix to 70:1 enroute to 80:1. The oil works great and internal lubrication is more than sufficient. I won’t exceed the 80:1 ratio, but it saves money on oil while providing max protection. I won’t use anything else.
