Once again AMSOIL is the official oil of the Sturgis Rally. As we are within the travel dates I would like to remind you to stop in the store! We have plenty of inventory and our best sellers – The 20W50 motorcycle oil and the Octane Boost.

Not to mention the Nano-fiber oil filters which are incomparable as they offer twice the capacity and are 100% at 20 microns – something only nanofiber filters can claim.

One product we see a lot of return sales is of the MOB (Motorcycle Octane Boost) The chemistry differs from the car version and really makes for a punch when temperatures are climbing. It cleans and raises octane all at once.

What is AMSOIL Motorcycle Boost (MOB) and what benefits does it provide?

AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost is a fuel additive designed to increase octane in fuel. Higher octane fuel can lead to more powerful and efficient engine operation. Motorcycle Octane Boost also cleans combustion chamber deposits for increased performance at startup and helps eliminate engine ping or knock for more power at low RPM acceleration.

How much boost does AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost provide?

AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost typically responds better in lower octane fuel and in fuel that contains ethanol. When treated at 1.3 fluid ounces per gallon in 92.6 Research Octane Number (RON) unleaded gasoline with 10% ethanol, Motorcycle Octane Boost increases fuel up to 3 RON, boosting 92.6 RON fuel up to 95.6 RON.

Is AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost compatible with catalytic converters and oxygen (O?) sensors?

Yes, at the recommended treat rate Motorcycle Octane Boost is registered with the EPA and is safe for use with catalysts and O? sensors.

What is the treat rate for AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost? Are there are issues with overtreatment?

One 4 ounce bottle of AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost treats four to six gallons of gasoline. Slight overtreatment causes no issues, but significant overtreatment is not recommended.

How does AMSOIL Motorcycle Octane Boost help improve fuel economy?

 Deposits frequently form in motorcycle engines and Motorcycle Octane Boost contains active detergents that clean deposits in combustion chambers and fuel delivery systems, helping improve fuel economy and overall performance. We now carry a number of products from 20W-50, 10W-40, 20W-40, 10W-30, SAE60, Special supercross spec dirt bike oils in the 40, 50 and 60WT lines. And our ATV lineup which also has specific products for Polaris.

Products for all makes are specified on the bottles. The more popular ones are also available in gallons.

If you work on bikes or own a service center stocking AMSOIL is a must. If you believe in the quality of your own service nothing will support or compliment your work as AMSOIL will. How can a 20W-50 be used in my transmission requiring a 75W-90?

We get this question a lot and it’s a good one!  – How can a 20W-50 be used in my transmission requiring a 75W-90 (80W-90, 75W-110)

The answer is simple if you have a chart to reference by. The viscosity for engine oils and gear oils are not part of the same scale. In fact a SAE 90 gear oil may actually have less viscosity than a SAE50 (20W50). The illustration clearly explains why. Now you know something most mechanics don’t know.

Note that when these charts were published when the 75W-110 category was not yet popular. A 110 make up that 1/3 section at the top of a 90WT and the lower part of the 140WT.

The AMSOIL 20W-50 will remain a 50WT engine oil through it’s recommended interval. Many other motorcycle oils have been tested to not follow this same path. They either fail after 1/2 their life or start at the low end of the category so are less likely to hold the needed viscosity. The higher the viscosity the more it costs the manufacturer so less $ to stock holders and AMSOIL has no stockholders to cheapen the formula!!

The new AMSOIL V-Twin Transmission fluid is right in the heart of the 75W-110 zone so use that product to really smooth out  your transmission if you have gear clatter.

Also note that if you take a bottle of each 75W-90 and 20W-50 you will notice they don’t flow the same – that’s because of their “W” or winter category. They will however when the temperature reaches the 100F as noted on the chart.

Another new product for the Sioux Falls store based on years of requests. AMSOIL introduces both a Synthetic transmission fluid and a primary chaincase fluid.

While AMSOIL still recommends the original suggestion (MCV 20W-50 in all three) these satisfy those who want to use a specific fluid for the application. Comparing viscosities the new transmission fluid is similar to a 75W-110 gear oil in weight but has the same enhancements as our legendary motorcycle oils such as additives for storage and high RPM.  The Primary lube follows the line of the 10W-40 weights allowing for easier clutch and shifting performance.
